“Encouraging Words During Tough Times | The Lord is with You” reflects God’s faithfulness. You can trust Him knowing He is in control regardless of the outcome.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and alone in times of difficulty and adversity. But, the Bible offers a wellspring of encouragement and assurance for those who draw strength and solace from their faith.
The Bible is filled with stories of individuals who faced trials, tribulations, and seemingly insurmountable challenges. However, they emerged victorious because of their unwavering belief that the Lord was with them.
In this article, we will explore some of these stories and the encouraging words of comfort they provide to guide us through our own tough times. They may come in various forms at different times. However, He is with us in diverse situations.
Encouraging Words | Psalm 23:4, Isaiah 41:10, Matthew 28:20
The 23rd Psalm is a well-loved passage that provides solace during difficult times. In verse 4, it says, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
This verse is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest moments, God’s presence brings comfort and courage. Therefore, we can rest assured that the Lord is with us, guiding and protecting us despite the challenges we face
Furthermore, Isaiah 41:10 offers a reassuring promise: “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
Isaiah’s encouraging words remind us that we need not fear the uncertainties of life because God is our source of strength and support. His presence will sustain us, helping us overcome adversity.
Additionally, in the New Testament, Jesus provides an enduring promise to His disciples: “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” We have the same assurance as His followers.
This verse underscores that Christ’s presence remains with His followers throughout their lives. Knowing that Jesus is with us can provide great comfort and assurance in tough times. We find this in the Great Commission in Matthew 28.
Joseph: Pit to Palace | David: Shepherd Boy to King
The story of Joseph in the Book of Genesis is a powerful example of God’s unwavering presence during times of adversity. Joseph faced countless trials, including betrayal by his brothers, slavery, and imprisonment.
In Genesis 39:2, it is said, “The LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man.” Ultimately, Joseph’s trust in God’s plan led him to a position of great influence, saving not only Egypt but also his family during a severe famine.
Joseph’s story reminds us that even in the most challenging circumstances, God has a purpose and a plan. It’s a testament to God’s presence and unwavering support even in the most challenging circumstances. His own brothers betrayed him, threw him into a pit, sold him into slavery, and he was unjustly imprisoned in Egypt. However, Joseph never lost faith.
Likewise, we must trust His guidance and remain faithful. Remember, He is with us in every trial.
Similarly, David, the shepherd boy who became the great King of Israel, faced numerous daunting challenges throughout his life. The story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 is a classic example of God’s presence in times of great peril.
As David faced the giant, he declared, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37, ESV).
His faith in God’s protection enabled him to conquer the seemingly insurmountable obstacle before him. Similarly, our faith in Him will give us the strength to go through our battles. However, the outcome may be different in every circumstance.
Moses Leading the Exodus | Joshua Crossing Jordan River
Moses faced incredible adversity as he led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. And, it seemed impossible to escape as they reached the Red Sea with Pharaoh’s army in pursuit.
Yet, God provided a path when there seemed to be none. “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14, NIV).
Moses’ faith and obedience led to the parting of the Red Sea, leading the Israelites to safety. This narrative reminds us that God can make a way when it seems there is no way.
In like manner, one of the most iconic passages in the Bible that offers encouragement in times of difficulty is in the book of Joshua. God commissions Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. This was a daunting task.
However, God assures Joshua, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NIV)
Many miraculous events marked Joshua’s leadership, but one of the most memorable was the crossing of the Jordan River.
As the Israelites approached the river’s flooding waters, Joshua urged the people to “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you” (Joshua 3:5, NIV).
The Israelites followed God’s instructions with unwavering faith. As a result, the river miraculously stopped flowing, allowing them to cross on dry ground.
This story reminds us that when we obey God’s guidance, He can lead us through our own life’s challenges. Like Joshua, we should face our challenges with courage, knowing that the Lord is always with us.
The Apostles | God’s Encouraging Words
The early Christian apostles faced severe persecution for their faith, yet they continued to preach the Gospel with joy.
Acts 5:41-42 records, “The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.”
The apostles’ commitment to their faith is a testament to the strength and encouragement that comes from knowing that the Lord is with them despite severe adversity.
Similarly, the Apostle Paul endured significant hardships in his life, including persecution and personal suffering. In 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV), he recounts God’s response to his plea for relief from a “thorn in the flesh”:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Paul recognized that God’s strength is made perfect in our weaknesses, offering encouragement to persevere in the face of adversity.
Each individual’s “thorn in the flesh” will be different. And, the answer we seek may not be what God has planned for us. But, His message comforts us when we know His grace is sufficient. What is your “thorn in the flesh?” And, will you trust God’s sovereignty?

I think it’s only natural that it’s during the tough times that we seek gods help through prayer. Honestly when life is good we don’t really have any interest in that. But prayer is a special thing and i picture if there’s a God him enjoying connecting with people through their prayers. I wish you well in your turbulent times. Have a good day.
Hi Jake. Most often, it’s during the tough times that we tend to reach out in prayer and it’s a special thing. This makes it meaningful in our everyday lives turbulent times or not. All the best!
